Keep your baby safe by following these simple safety tips:
When measuring formula, use a knife to level off the scoop but avoid packing the powder down.
Avoid using a microwave to heat formula - they heat unevenly and can create hot pockets, leading to burns, as well as breaking down vital nutrients.
Never leave your baby to feed unattended by propping the bottle up - it could make him/her choke.
Check teats and bottles carefully and throw out any with splits or cracks.
Be careful when removing the lid off steam sterilisers, as the inside can become very hot.
Don't leave jugs of hot water used to warm bottles where young children can reach them.
Never carry warm milk in an insulated carrier because this will encourage the growth of harmful bacteria.
If your baby doesn't finish all his milk, throw the remainder away.
Prepare formula exactly as stated on the label. Formula that is too weak or diluted can lead to nutritional deficiencies; formula that is too strong can lead to dehydration or kidney problems.
Wash your hands before handling baby bottles or feeding your baby.
Sterilize bottles and other formula-feeding equipment until your baby is 12 months old.
Use refrigerated ready-to-feed formula within 48 hours of opening.
Don't leave bottles of formula out of the refrigerator for more than one hour.
