With spring around the corner...

Longer days and warmer weather herald the coming of spring!  It’s one of my favorite times of the year.  Watching the buds swell and leaves come forth on barren twigs, daffodils pushing through the ground to upturn their bright faces to the sky!

Spring lends itself to long walks enjoying the sunshine.  It is also the best time to do a little maintenance on your stroller.  With the price of strollers in the tune of a thousand or more, regular maintenance of you “investment” Get the dirt, mud and salt of winter off the chassis and wheels

1. Regularly brush or wash off dirt from the stroller’s wheels

Not necessarily every time you go out and use the stroller that you have to brush the wheels of the stroller. Use your judgment, as to when to brush off dirt. It mainly depends on where you have used the stroller. If it’s dusty or muddy terrain, then it’s necessary to clean the wheels. Dry brushing is recommended for dust-related dirt and washing for mud-related dirt. This way, dirt will not accumulate in and on the wheels and the wheel area too. Oftentimes, when dirt has dried off and accumulated, it is hard to clean and take off the dirt. So, regularly clean the stroller’s wheels.

2. Wipe the whole stroller surface with dry or damp rag

When going out, dust and other stuff stick on the stroller’s surface. Regularly wipe the stroller’s surface with a dry rag. If some sticky stuff is on the stroller’s surface like dried baby food, baby drool or juice. Just simply wipe it off using a damp rag or a baby wipe. By doing this, your baby’s stroller will be dust free and sticky-stuff free.

3. Regularly wash the stroller’s seat and shade

Most strollers have detachable strollers and shade. This way, you can wash them if they get dirty and smelly. You can’t avoid accidents like, when your baby pours or spits out his food or juice or throw up. Wiping the seat/cushion of the stroller is not enough. It will stain, smell and molds will grew out of it. This is not safe for the baby. You have to wash it out. You can either scrub the stained area or put it in the washing machine. With a clean seat and shade the stroller will maintain a brand-new look.  Another good investment is a “piddle pad”

4. Occasionally oil the wheels

With over use your stroller’s wheels might not roll the right way. Like for example it gets stuck or it does not roll smoothly. To maintain the wheel’s “health” you can pour a few drops of all in 1 oil on the insides of the wheels. You can avoid accidents and your stroller’s wheels will roll efficiently. Making your stroll with your baby more enjoyable.

Storage:
When storing your stroller, you’ll want to make sure it is protected while not in use. If your stroller comes with a protective case or bag, you’ll want to make sure to use it while your stroller is in storage. Keep your stroller away from heat or air conditioning vents, windows, furnaces or anything else that can cause a dramatic change in temperature. Extreme temperatures and frequent temperature changes can cause the pieces of your stroller to warp or crack. You’ll also want to make sure your stroller is stored in a dry, clean area to keep fabrics from mildewing.

Proper use:
Properly caring for your stroller also means only using it for its designated purpose. If you want to go jogging with your child, don’t attempt to use your everyday stroller as they are not built to endure the bumps and speed of jogging. Likewise, using a jogging stroller for everyday use can wear down the tires quickly, making it unsafe for the times when you do want to take a jog.  An umbrella stroller is lightweight and easy to use, but it’s not meant for extended periods of use. It’s a good idea to invest in various strollers for different uses.

pegSkateTraveling:
Whether packing up the car or catching a flight, you’ll want to make sure you have your stroller properly packed up for the trip. If your stroller comes with a protective storage/carrying case or bag, that is the best way to keep your stroller safe from scratches, dings and breaks during travel. If you do not have a protective case for your stroller, a heavy-duty plastic bag will help protect it. Make sure to take off any accessories before packing your stroller up, so that there won’t be any undue stress on these pieces that can cause them to break off. You can pack any accessories separately to keep them and your stroller safe.

With these simple tips you can maintain your stroller in good condition that will able you to use it over and over again.
