I love Sesame Street

When I was little, I was like many kids of my generation and raised by the television. Mr. Rogers was my neighbor. Being little in San Francisco, I thought Mr. Rogers little cable car was the same cable cars I would see on the street. I was also convinced that Mr. Mcfeely was my mailman. I keep hoping to see Lady Elaine Fairchild in her spinning house.
But my true love was Sesame street. The city life and buildings of Sesame Street looked very much like the block I lived on. I felt Big Bird’s frustration when no one would believe Snuffleupagus was real. I giggled when Ernie would annoy Bert, and I would collect bottle caps that I would find on the ground because I just knew Bert would love them.

But my favorite was and will always be Grover. Blue, fuzzy, curious, and always wanting to help. That was me, except the blue part. Or the hairy part.
I found Cookie Monster a bit scary with his manic eating habits, and Oscar needed to lighten up. Telly Monster was a little too neurotic, and his buddy Harry Monster was just scary looking.  But Grover was amazing. He knew about near AND far. He could wait tables, THEN be Super Grover! A real super hero! He was, in his own words, lovable, cute and furry!
My prized possession when I was 6 was my Grover Sings The Blues Album. Yes an album. For a real record player.

Well time passes, I grew up. I would watch Sesame Street with my baby sister, and Elmo came along. He was okay I guess, a little too precocious for my tastes.. Then there was Zoey. Too sweet, too girly.
I haven’t watched the show in over 20 years now so I am completely clueless who anyone is any more. However today, I stumbled upon a video and I fell in love again.
Meet Abby Cadabby. Not sure what her back story is, but in my honest opinion you can’t dislike anyone who loves broccoli and is not afraid of new foods.
So this is my happy Thursday to you. I hope this video made me smile as much as it made me smile!
